Why am I getting a remote server error?

This error means that something is interfering with our software's ability to connect to our servers. You may see this error when attempting to register Appraise-It, change the active licensed user, or access one of the online services such as Street Maps. You can try the steps below to restore or unblock your connection. After each step, try what you were doing when you got the error again.

1. Reboot your computer and any networking equipment (router, modem, et cetera).
2. Repair your network connection.

  • In Windows XP, go to StartControl PanelNetwork Connections, then right-click on Local Area Connection and select Repair.
  • In Windows Vista or 7, go to StartControl PanelNetwork and Sharing Center, then click on Troubleshoot Problems, then click on Network Adapter and follow the troubleshooting wizard's steps.
  • In Windows 8, go to the Start screen and type "network troubleshooter", then click Identify and repair network problems.

3. Reset your DNS.

  • Go to Start Run... and type "cmd" without quotation marks, then click OK. Type "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotation marks, then hit "Enter". You should receive notification that the DNS Resolver Cache was successfully flushed.

4.  Go to StartControl Panel ⇨ Internet Options, click on the Connections tab, then click LAN Setting. Uncheck any options that are checked, then click OK twice.
5. Make sure that any firewall or antivirus software you have installed on your computer is not blocking any of our programs. You may need to contact your firewall or antivirus software provider for assistance; you could also ask them how to "whitelist" our software to ensure this is not an issue in a future.

If none of these steps work, contact Technical Support for further assistance.
